It is important that players can recover quickly after a short sprint as it is highly likely that they will be required to sprint again a short time after.

Speed is important in European handball as it allows athletes to move across and court quickly, giving them an advantage over slower players. Agility Factors which affect agility include centre of gravity, speed, reaction time, fibre type and flexibility.

Upper body strength is of paramount importance for handball players for two main reasons: Throwing speed and reduction of the risks of injury of the throwing shoulder. Ability to perform effective defensive interventions.

It relies on anaerobic power, speed, flexibility & dynamic balance and co-ordination. During handball agility is a very important component as the athlete is changing their direction very often and having to move at a very fast pace also. Coordination: is the ability to use the body's senses to execute motor skills smoothly & accurately. It refers to bring all the body parts together in a purposeful movement.

Agility is the ability to move in many different directions at a high speed. It requires a combination of balance, coordination, speed, reflexes, strength, endurance and stamina. In my opinion it is the most crucial component in Handball, Gaelic Football, Basketball, Hurling and most sports.

What speed training does is streamline muscle co-ordination, which makes every move more efficient, faster, smoother, more accurate, and it uses less energy to execute. Now you might suggest it is genetics that gives the players their co-ordination and therefore higher performance and you would be partially correct.
